THE CHURCH - POLLUTED AND PURIFIED
Acts Chapter 5
Introduction
1. The book of Acts is a historical
account of how Jesus continued His
ministry through His apostles
2. Chapter 1 - Jesus spends forty days teaching His apostles before He
ascends into heaven
3. Chapter 2 - Pentecost - 3000 souls saved
4. Chapter 3 - Peter and John boldly enter into ministry by healing a
crippled man.
An opportunity is given to preach the Gospel.
Threatened - chose to follow God not man
Prayer meeting - not to be delivered from oppression but to be able to
preach the same message with boldness that brought about the oppression
Chapter 4 v:32-37 Revival
How a Spirit Filled Church Looks
It is unified - one heart and one soul
They had all things in common
When one member wept they all wept
When one member rejoiced they all rejoiced
There was “Community Awareness”
They were concerned more with the Spiritual than the material
They had a “Spiritual Awareness” A Biblical World View”
THE INTEGRITY AND PURITY OF THE CHURCH
IS NOW THREATENED FROM WITHIN
(Chapter 5)
THE PROBLEM (Acts 5: 1)
Satan attacks from within
THE INSTRUMENT (Acts 5: 1-2)
Ananias and Sapphira
THE INIQUITY (Acts 5: 2-4)
Hypocrisy
Hypocrisy:
The desire to look better than yu are; the hiding of things you do,
because you you do not want anyone to know you do them. You would be
ashamed to have them known.
The doing of them is foul - but the hiding
of them in order to appear better than yu are, is fouler still.
(Paraphrase - George McDonald)
THE INSTIGATOR (Acts 5:3)
Satan
THE PURGING - PURIFICATION (Acts 5: 5-7)
Ananias fell down and breathed his last.
THE POWER (Acts 5 :5,11)
Fear
THE FRUIT (Acts 5: 13,15-16)
THE FAVOR (Acts 5: 13-14)
THE CONCLUSION OF THE MATTER
“Be honest with ourselves - be honest
before God - be responsible to
the Body of Christ (The Church) - let your love be without hypocrisy,
hate what is evil, and cling to what is good.”
