Overcoming Sexual Sin
By Pastor Bob

Sex is one of the most
beautiful
gifts of God to man and the most abused and perverted.
Its primary purpose is to create, with God, a
new human life. That we are able to get tremendous enjoyment,
satisfaction,
gratification, etc. from sex was certainly intended by God. Our society
has
become totally engrossed in perverting the meaning and purpose of sex.
A report
in U.S News and World Report stated that more than $8 billion was spent
on
pornography in a recent year. Other statistics: Playboy’s website gets
5
million hits a day; there are 72,000 porn sites on the web with about
266 being
added each day. It is difficult to find a TV program or commercial that
is not
exploiting sex. It has been estimated that one in three girls and one
in seven
boys will be sexually molested before age 18. Obviously something is
wrong. What
we do with this gift is our choice – we are responsible. Unlike an
animal that
is controlled purely by instincts we were created with a free will –
with the intelligence
to make choices between good and evil.
How does one overcome sexual sin?
By confessing and repenting. James
1:14-15 says, “But every man is tempted,
when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. [15] Then when lust
hath
conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin,
when it is
finished, bringeth forth death.”(KJV) Lust may be defined as, “I want what I want
when I want it!” The source of the temptation is our lust which becomes
idolatry – our god. Driving forces for sexual sin include: lust for
immediate
gratification – pornography, prostitution, marital infidelity; lust for
man’s
approval – a sin of pride; lust for control – I am the director of my
life - I
make the boundaries; lust to be god – I can do what I want when I want
- there
is no such thing as moral behavior or right and wrong.
Once we are aware of these “lusts” we must
make a choice. Do we continue to let sexual sin control us or do we
confess our
sin and repent and seek help. James
